I guess that it almost goes without saying no matter what your business is,
if your job is selling, you want to make sales. To go further, you need to
make sales in order to survive -- making sales is your lifeblood and the
reason that you get out of bed in the morning.

I know this because, before I got involved in the online business world, I
spent many years selling all sorts of goods and services in the real world to
'bricks and mortar' businesses. I was even fortunate enough to work in
many different countries doing the same kind of work, so I have managed to
learn quite a bit over the years. Throughout those years, one thing became
crystal clear to me: as much as landing a new customer gives you a real
buzz because it tells you that you are doing something right, being able to
turn someone into a loyal customer is even more of a high because that tells
you that you are doing a lot more than just 'something' right. In this case,
the customer is obviously happy with most of the things that you are doing,
and, therefore, you are beginning to build an all-important business
relationship with them.

Loyal customers were by far the most valuable asset ever acquired by any of
the businesses I worked for or owned. They were people who would continue
to buy unless there was a definite reason why they should no longer do so.

Sometimes, they stopped buying for external reasons such as a new
competitor entering the market with considerably cheaper prices or a better
product range. In general terms, this situation is something that you can
only fight against, but never completely prevent. However, losing loyal
customers because of poor service or inattention to detail is an inexcusable
and expensive mistake, and one that you should never make.

When I started managing sales teams of my own, this customer neglect was
an error I saw too many junior salespeople make far too regularly. An
appallingly high number of fresh salespeople seemed to spend all of their
time chasing around trying to find new customers rather than focusing the
appropriate amount of time and attention on their existing customer base.

There are many parallels here between the world of offline business and
what many millions of people all over the world are doing daily online to
generate an income.

Everyday, there are new e-books, training materials, instructional videos,
and the like coming onto the market that will teach you how to unearth a
constant stream of hungry new customers. While this is all very good, it
tends to ignore the significance of existing customers and other resources
that you currently own or control. A daily focus on finding new customers all
day, everyday, ignores the fact that the true profitability in any business is
generally not at the 'front end'.

This special report is not going to teach you how to land new customers for your
business, although I am going to look into the initial sales process and the
tools that you need to make it work: these tools of start up are essential for
the long-term profitability of your business. Instead, the primary focus of
everything in this report is on how to make extra money once you have
already landed the initial sale from your customer. In essence, I am going to
concentrate more on the long-term development of a profitable business,
rather than on how to find new customers everyday. Having said this,
neither you nor I can ignore the importance of new customers. No matter

Today starts a New Year and I know there are lots of challenges ahead.

Just three days ago, our third daughter, Caylene, was born in the Philippines and for the first time I was not there to witness the first hours of my child out in the world.

I'm hundreds of miles away from my family and I missed three important occasions this past week. My wife celebrated her birthday on Dec. 25, my youngest daughter was born last Dec. 29, and I spent the New Year's Eve alone in my room on the 12th floor of an apartment building in Singapore.

These are just some of the reasons why I made a promise to myself that next year will not be the same. This time around next year, I'd have a stable online business and I would not have to miss any of my family's special occasions anymore.

I'm an OFW (overseas Filipino worker) and I have to sacrifice being away from my family just to give them whatever they need. However, being away from them deprives me and my family, the quality time to keep our bond stronger.

3 Keys to Success This Year

I've personally set a goal for myself that this time around next year, I'll be more financially stable and would have succeeded in my online business. I also hope to improve other people's lives along the way especially my fellow OFW's (overseas Filipino workers) by sharing my experience and knowledge in putting up an online business.

When it comes to succeeding online - whether that means starting your own online business, earning money as an affiliate, or something more, there is a world of confusion.

Create a niche site, some say. But that’s easier said than done.

Publish an ezine, say others. But what would you have to say?

Become a super affiliate we often hear. Again .. HOW?

In the years I’ve been online I have been blessed indeed to be able to learn what I needed to know to succeed. Sometimes I learned from other's examples. Sometimes I learned from watching other's mistakes. And sometimes I learned from painful (and costly) trial and error.

Based on all of that, I’d like to share with you three keys that I believe can help every one of you succeed this year, and beyond.

1. KNOW YOURSELF

The good thing about the Internet is that there are so many different ways to make money.

And the bad thing about the Internet is that there are so many different ways to make money.

So what’s a boy (or girl) to do?

Know yourself. Respond to what feels right, what sounds right to you.

Remember what you learned as a youth — if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Nowhere is that more true that on the Internet where scams and snake-oil salesmen abound.

So, how *specifically* does ‘knowing yourself’ help you succeed online?

Here’s how.

If you are losing sleep over the ability to pay your bills and need some very fast money you may be much better off getting a second job for a while than ’starting an online business’.

I know — that’s not the advice you are used to hearing. But it’s the advice I would give my sisters.

There ARE situations where trading time for money makes *very* good sense - times where the efforts you make MUST bring a return or you will lose everything.

A bird in the hand still beats two in the bush, and making any real money online when you are just starting out is hard. Very hard.

The truth you are not being told is that the “overnight success” “here’s a picture of my PayPal account” “look at my shiny new race car” stories are by FAR the exception … IF they are even telling the truth.

You know that in your gut, so trust yourself when the voice in your head says “better think twice”.

Here’s another example.

If you are staying up until the wee hours of the morning viewing site after site that sound too good to be true then you are headed for trouble.

Someone is about to pick your pocket.

It might be with the promise of huge commissions or of doing all the work for you (why would they do that?) but one way or the other they are going to take your money. So be careful. Very careful.

2. GET OFF THE OPPORTUNITY TREADMILL

What does that mean? It means stop looking for the next big thing and start looking for the next real thing.

Specifically, if a business you are considering does not make sense to you but is asking you to ‘trust them’ please don’t.

Business online is just like business offline. Those who stick with things succeed. Those who jump around don’t.

Nowhere is this more evident that in network marketing. I’ve read, but not confirmed, that the average person starting out in network marketing stays with the program they choose for less than 90 days.

My friend, no one succeeds at anything new in less than 90 days … especially if they are doing that business part time.

So, forget the word ‘opportunity’ for a moment and focus on the word business.

Here are a few clarifying questions that might help.

Is the business you are considering delivering a real product?

Does that product help people achieve meaningful goals?

Do you understand how the business works?

Could you explain the business to your best friend and be comfortable?

WOULD you share the business with your best friend and still be comfortable in the friendship?

If you answered yes to all of these questions you have the beginning of a basis to go into a business.

If not, run.

3. FOCUS

We touched on this above but it is *so* important that I want to hover here for a moment more.

To succeed online (or offline for that matter) you will have to focus on *one* thing at a time.

* Focus your attention
* Focus your resources
* Focus your passion
* Focus your time

If you learn to focus your resources in this way on *one* thing and prove that it is for you (or that it is not for you) you will succeed faster. Period.

How can you focus?

Think of something you want to accomplish. It might be a business you are considering or a new site you want to build or a way to advertise a product.

Now examine that from the outside in and then the inside out and then examine it again.

Ask questions. Be a skeptic. Check out testimonials to be sure they are real. Ask people who have succeeded with the idea you are pursuing.

Now go further and Google something about the idea to see what people are saying and to check the validity of any sites you might be considering.

Once you *know* that you want to move ahead take action and give it your all.

Only then can you know what will work for you!

One last word - the fact that something doesn’t work the first time does not mean that it will not work.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the world of advertising where beginning advertisers wrongly think they can run one ad and have it succeed.

Professional advertisers know that it takes testing - and patience - to make an ad campaign work.

If your first attempt at something fails consider analyzing why and trying again before moving on to something else.

Use your focus to discover how to do better on the next try. The list of people who failed on their first try and then went on to greatness is legion.

How to Avoid Home Business Scams.

If you're thinking of working from home you have to realize that at least 99% of the offers out there are scams. Now really if is so easy to pay a few dollars and make thousands, wouldn't everyone be doing it by now? Here are the biggest scams out there, how to recognize them, and how to avoid them.

First where did you see the "Big Money" work from home offer? If you got by email, saw a poster tacked to a bulletin board or one of those little signs on the side of the road then I can almost guarantee you that it’s not a legitimate offer. If you saw an ad in a newspaper, a job magazine or job website, then it’s more likely to be legitimate but not always. Remember always check out any offer, and assume it’s a scam until you have proof it's not.

Envelope Stuffing is one of the most established work from home scams. The way it works is once you pay your money and sign up to work from home, you are sent a set of envelopes and ads just like the one you responded to. Then you stuff your envelopes and pay to send them out. You could make some money if someone responds to your ad but the chances are slim. Don't waste your money on this one.

Home assemblers wanted. Charging for supplies is hard to pin down to any one scam it’s the way almost all work at home scams work. First you will be asked invest in the materials needed to do the work and then you will be sent very cheap materials that aren't worth anything like what you paid for them. Once the product is assembled you'll find that there’s no one who will buy it.

Quick tip: If anyone asks for money up front run away fast. A real company should be willing to deduct any ‘fees’ from your first pay check if they won't do that for you, then that’s because they don't ever plan to pay you.

A variation on the scam common with crafts is that you might be asked to work at home making clothes, ornaments or toys. Everything seems legitimate you've got the materials without paying out any money, and you're doing the work. Unfortunately for you, when you send the work back, the company will tell you that it didn't meet their ‘quality standards’, and will refuse to pay you. Never do craft work from home unless you're selling the items yourself.

Home Typing and Medical Billing scams. There are lots of work from home scams that will lead you to believe that they have more work than they can handle so they need people to work from home. What will happen. You will be told that you would be typing documents, or entering medical bills into a computer. These scams have one thing in common. They say all you need is your computer and then all you have to do is buy their special software to do the job.

This software might appear to be from a completely unrelated company, but don't be fooled the whole reason the ‘work from home ad was there to begin with was a sneaky way to sell you their software.

I hope this helps you see running a home business that involves you working for one company is a bad idea. You don't know who you're dealing with. Remember even with entirely legal work at home offers that does pay you for your work, you still won't make near as much money as you can with your very own home business.

Writing a Business Plan. You're ready to get your home business started in every way except one. You need money. Either from a loan or from investors. But where do you start? One thing you will need before you can get capital for your business is a business plan.

What’s a Business Plan? A business plan is simply a list of answers to questions that people might have about your home business. You will not get outside funding without one, because the people giving you the funding want to know that you have thought your venture through completely. A business plan says: I've considered this from every angle, and I am ready to get going.

Your business plan should include? A description of your service. Just what is it that you plan to do? Tell them which industry you're going to be in, and why you've chosen it.

Who are your customers? Once you know what your business will do, the next thing you need to know is who you are going to be doing it for.

What makes your business different? You need to explain what makes your business different from other businesses in your market. How do you plan to do to make the business succeed?

List your expenses. Include start up expenses and any equipment that you need before you can get up and running. Also include your daily expenses such as staff costs and supplies.
